"nanotesla is an exploration of the sounds of our solar system. Between September 2024 and January 2025, Les Beaux Plastiques (Beau) trawled through NASA datasets, taken from magnetometer (MAG) instruments onboard various space probes to turn the magnetic fields of the planets that orbit our sun into unique waveforms using the Max/MSP programming environment. These sounds were diligently captured and catalogued to create a brand new pallet with which music and video art can be composed. nanotesla is the culmination of that research effort and sees Beau break out of the linear, atonal work found on previous album Function, in favour of more familiar structures and compositional techniques, while putting a firm focus on the sounds and Lissajous patterns of the new waveforms rather than using more familiar auditory colours such as sine waves and white noise.

The harsh timbres of the planets enhance the emotional drama while providing intense kinetic digital artworks when viewed through an XY oscilloscope. nanotesla is as much a visual work as it is an auditory one and seeks to push understanding of electronic dance music while exploring the cosmos."
